After leaving Eureka, we traveled through redwood forests and little towns. We stopped for coffee in Leggett on our way to Novato where we camped over night before turning East on Rt 37 to avoid traveling through downtown San Francisco. We were pretty desperate to find a campsite since it was a holiday weekend and the places we tried were full. Novato RV was really a mobile home park with a few sites for those traveling through. In the morning, there was an immediate U Turn on 101 for us since we didn't realize the exit was coming up so quickly.
The couple camped beside us at Novato had spent 3 months visiting family outside of Seattle. We discovered we were traveling the same route to Palm Springs and met them again in Morgan Hill Thousand Trails Campground where we stayed 4 days.
Poor photography here but the redwoods are always impressive just the same. |
These signs always make me cringe no matter what vehicle I'm in. |
Grape vines are more prevalent. |
A single tree on a hill without leaves looking over the vineyard landscape. I think traveling this time of year is pretty even if the leaves haven't come on yet. |
The sound barrier along 101 was made for musicians! For several miles, the music staff motif was used. |
I think this tree is a live oak. There were many along the route making interesting silhouettes against the blue and green. |
Photo doesn't do justice to the bright blue flowers along a path we walked in the park. We try to get in 9800 walking steps when we aren't on the road. |
Dry creek bed. CA has had more rain this winter than others but there is still a great lack. |
While I was reading in the sun, this medium sized bird stopped by the tree. I think it may be a ladderbacked woodpecker. |
The El Camino Real bells along 600 miles of 101. |
Creative pruning at Novato RV Park |
Campers were very cozy. No room to even put the awning out. |
